Lithuania

Project "Your Time - Your Possibility" continues in Lithuania. Our five-man team on 23rd of October visited orphanage in Kuršėnai, Lithuania. We shortly introduced kids to overall idea of the Project and shared the experience we gained in Armenia during the exchange.

All children met us full of curiosity and questions: "What do we do?", "How long you will stay?". Meeting began with the game which helped to remember each other's names. We tried to stimulate children's creativity, so asked them to draw on the leaflet an animal whose name begins with the first letter of child‘s name and after that presented our drawings. The most entertaining was the youngest Tadukas who said 'My name is Tadas and I drew a cat’. Just later we realized that it was Tom the cat from the animated movie „Tom & Jerry”.

Games encouraging creativity continued. All of us grouped in pairs and painted our mates on balloons. It was really fun. We saw that children really love to paint and then talk about their pictures because then they get a lot of attention, so we decided to find out what they love to do in their free time. Again we all took one leaflet of white paper and painted how we spend our free time. Presenting our works stunned that children are very active: football, basketball, horseback riding. Just few of them mentioned computer or TV. It‘s almost a perfect example how not to waste your time. However, variety of activities they do is very poor.

We wanted to do something to leave some memories of our afternoon spent together, so we decided to teach them origami folding. Here Benas from Centre for Creative Expression helped us (thanks to him!). And once again children surprised us. A couple of guys told that they already have folded two educational books and that there is nothing serious (and again ahead of us!).

Time ran out so incredibly quickly so we just felt that we have to say that sad word "Goodbye." Before leaving kids we presented them a few board games and candies, hoping that it at least somehow will brighten their daily lives (especially long winter evenings when they can not do too many outdoor activities).

Being together we realized that these children need lots of warmth and attention.
